Relationship Therapy in Chicago, Oak Park & Beyond

Build relationships with more connection, communication, and room to be yourselves.

Relationships are living systems. They change as the people within them grow, encounter stress, discover new parts of themselves, navigate conflict, and imagine different possibilities for their lives together.

At QST, relationship therapy provides a collaborative space to better understand your relationship, strengthen connection, communicate more effectively, navigate challenges, and intentionally shape the kind of relationship you want to have. We offer couples therapy in Oak Park and Lakeview, plus virtual couples counseling for people across Illinois.

We work with couples, partners, throuples, polycules, friends, and people across a wide range of relationship structures, sexualities, and identities.

Monogamous or not, married or dating, brand new or twenty years in, if you're building a relationship with another person, we'd love to work with you.

Relationships Beyond Monogamy

There are countless ways to build loving, meaningful, committed relationships.

Our therapists welcome people practicing or exploring polyamory, ethical or consensual non-monogamy (ENM/CNM), open relationships, relationship anarchy, swinging, and other relationship structures.

We can help you navigate the questions that come with building relationships outside of conventional scripts: agreements, boundaries, jealousy, new relationship energy, time and resource management, communication across multiple relationships, opening or closing a relationship, changing relationship structures, and figuring out what commitment means to you.

You don't need to teach your therapist the basics of your relationship structure before you can talk about the reason you came to therapy.

Kink + BDSM-Affirming Relationship Therapy

Kink can be an important part of sexuality, intimacy, identity, community, and relationship dynamics.

Our kink-aware and affirming therapists understand that BDSM and power-exchange dynamics can add additional layers to relationships, from communication, consent and negotiation to boundaries, trust, intimacy, aftercare, and navigating the intersection between a power dynamic and everyday life.

We approach kink with curiosity and cultural humility, making space to explore the role it plays in your relationships without automatically treating it as a problem to solve.

What Can We Work On Together?

Our Chicago-area couples and relationship therapists can support you with:

  • Emotional connection
  • Sex, desire, pleasure, and intimacy

  • Boundaries, agreements, and expectations

Relationship therapy can also be a place to deepen relationships that are already working well, to communicate more intentionally, explore your sexuality together, navigate a new chapter, or simply understand one another better.

Our Approach to Relationship Therapy

Our therapists think systemically. We're interested in the patterns that develop between people and how each person's history, identities, needs, strengths, and experiences contribute to the larger relationship system.

We'll help you slow those patterns down, understand what's happening underneath them, communicate more clearly, and practice new ways of connecting with one another.

Our work is queer-affirming, sex-positive, kink-aware, and knowledgeable about consensual non-monogamy and diverse relationship structures. We approach every relationship on its own terms and help you identify the values, agreements, and ways of relating that work for the people actually in it.

Your relationships get to reflect who you are.

Together, we'll help you understand the relationships you have and intentionally build the relationships you want, whether you're local to Oak Park and Lakeview or joining us virtually from anywhere in Illinois.
